Rutland may be the smallest county in England but in terms of antique shops and centres it sits alongside some of the biggest. The second largest town in Rutland is Uppingham, situated just off the A47 between Peterborough and Leicester and to the south of the picturesque Rutland Water, and is a "must visit" for the antiques enthusiast. Uppingham is a "hidden gem" that reminds you of the typical old English town with individual shops dominating the high street with hardly a multiple in sight. In Uppingham there are five antique shops and two antique centres, which must rate it as the perfect place to spend a day rummaging and searching for the next addition to the collection or that perfect gift. The Rutland Antiques Centre is located in the old stable block just behind the Crown Hotel. It is only 50 yards off the High Street, simply follow the signs on the archway of the Crown Hotel. For convenient car parking you should use the park adjacent to The Co-operative Store and the centre is next door.
The Rutland Antiques Centre, owned by David Malpas has over thirty dealers offering a diverse range of quality antiques and collectables which gives the single storey building a look and feel of an Aladdin's cave of quality and interesting stock. Amongst the cabinets, shelving and floor spaces can be found something to satisfy almost all tastes and certainly all occasions. The dealers update their stocks constantly, so to the regular visitor the centre is always changing.
David, who took over the centre six months ago has responded to the changing antiques market by introducing quality retro items from the 50's and 60's which have proved very popular to the customers. He, together with his wife Becky, often man the business and both have a wealth of experience in the antiques trade.
John and Jilly are often on duty (a rare day off for the owners!). They both also have a wealth of experience of the antiques trade and the local area and were able to answer my many questions with ease.
The centre has a warm and friendly atmosphere, giving a warm and friendly shopping experience where both browsers and buyers are most welcome.
The Rutland Antiques Centre will also buy individual items and collections. House clearances are also undertaken. For further information contact the centre on firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on:
